TE MATA ESTATE
Bernard Chambers sectioned off three pockets of land on the old Te Mata Station for grape-growing in 1892, and those three blocks are still in use today. In the 1980s, current owners John and Wendy Buck asked architect Ian Athfield to create the eye-catching art deco-inspired winery building. Try the Coleraine, a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc, which is one of New Zealand's most collected wines.
349 Te Mata Road, Havelock North.
