Orange clothes are encouraged, with spot prizes for the best dressed. Dutch food, games, crafts and activities on offer. On Facebook. The Mudder, Rangitīkei Farmstay, Marton, September. This endurance event is about muscles, mud and mental wellbeing — and is a heap of fun. The Mudder is run on a course that maximizes “the natural assets of a sheep and beef farm”, which means hills, fences, water, bogs, and plenty of obstacles. With 3km, 5km or 8km course options, The Mudder has something for everyone. Costumes encouraged. Foxton Spring Fling, Main Street, Foxton, the Sunday of Labour Weekend, October. Foxton, in celebration of spring, comes alive with music, food, fair rides and stalls selling a huge range of goods. Hunterville Huntaway Festival, Hunterville, the first Saturday after Labour Day. The only event of its kind in the North Island, this oh-so-very rural celebration now attracts up to 5000 visitors each year. A family day, filled with lots of entertainment, the main features are “shemozzles” — races for huntaway dogs and their shepherds of all ages.
