The Mudder, Rangitīkei Farmstay, Marton, September. This endurance event is about muscles, mud and mental wellbeing — and is a heap of fun. The Mudder is run on a course that maximizes “the natural assets of a sheep and beef farm”, which means hills, fences, water, bogs, and plenty of obstacles. Hunterville Huntaway Festival, Hunterville, the first Saturday after Labour Day. The only event of its kind in the North Island, this oh-so-very rural celebration now attracts up to 5000 visitors each year.
