BULLS

Te Ara Taumaihi and Ō-hine-pūhia

Bulls is undoubtedly the town that gets the most fun from its name. It was named for James Bull, owner of the general store. At the intersection of SH1 and SH3, and almost exactly 2 hours' drive from Wellington, it is a convenient stop for travelers. Along with a line-up of the expected services to fuel both vehicle and passenger, including some pretty decent public conveniences tucked in behind the BP petrol station, Bulls' real draw is its antique stores. Allow time to park and browse through the shops. Don't forget to pet one of the town's many black bull statues (who may or may not have been neutered due to frequent vandalization/trophy hunting).
