The Stories We Tell Ourselves
To 23 January, The Dowse Art Museum
Artists’ abilities as storytellers and their role in shaping gallery collections is examined in works acquired by The Dowse over the past four years. Exploring narratives concerning personal memories, oral traditions, social history and the environment, The Stories We Tell Ourselves demonstrates the gallery’s current commitment to collecting pieces by Māori, female, photographic and craft artists. The show includes work by Tia Ranginui (Ngāti Hine Oneone), Hana Rakena (Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tahu), Areez Katki and Hiria Anderson (Rereahu, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Apakura). dowse.org.nz
