Close-up: the poultry digestive system
Poultry have three digestive chambers – the crop, the proventriculus or ‘true' stomach, and the gizzard, which break down food. Most of the gastrointestinal tract is filled with different bacteria, most helping to ferment feed so it's easier for the intestine to extract nutrients.
