SH54 to Stormy Point

While it’s tempting to stick to SH1’s more-orless north-south trajectory, there’s enormous value in taking detours in this part of the world — a trip down SH54 is one of the best. Turn off from SH1 to SH54 6km north of Hunterville and drive for another 13km through the cute hamlet of Rewa to reach the well-signposted Stormy Point lookout. From there, it feels like much of the lower North Island is on show, and it’s a great place to watch the weather patterns play across the farmland.
