B.B. French Antiques

NZ Lifestyle Magazine Group

For 36 years, Bev Burling (the “B.B.” in the shop's name) and husband Gavin have been in the antique business — 26 of those at Sanson. They didn't mean to get into antiques, but Gavin kept bringing home finds from the tip. The build-up resulted in a garage sale, the proceeds from which made Bev and Gavin realize there was money to be made. The better part of four decades later and wares are now hand-picked on buying trips to France and Britain (pandemic permitting), as well as throughout New Zealand. With a wide range of ages and styles, and with new goods also on offer, there's no particular theme at B.B. French Antiques. “It's a palette of everything,” Bev says. Thus, there are great finds to be made here among the furniture, brocante (a much nicer word than “brica-brac”), art, jewelery, lamps, ornaments, porcelain, ceramics, and so on. Closed on Tuesdays. 63 Dundas Road (SH3). (06) 329 3467, bbfrenchantiques.co.nz
