RICHMOND

A 15-minute drive from central Nelson is Richmond, a fast-growing town of 15,000 citizens that is starting to rival its bigger sister for retail options. A cinema complex is planned to open at the end of 2021, and new restaurants appear every month. While its proximity to Golden Bay and Abel Tasman National Park make it an attractive overnight stop for trampers, kayakers and other outdoorsy types, there are also wineries, cafés and the region's largest shopping mall (for the more leisurely visitor).
