HINAU TRACK

This short walk allows access close to the lower levels of the bush-clad Kaikōura Ranges. As the track's name suggests, walkers are quickly enveloped in an unusual canopy of hīnau trees. The terrain is moderate, with small dips and rises, which eventually will reveal the Kōwhai River. The loop walk takes about 45 minutes return and is well formed, making it suitable for families. But come prepared with study footwear and a wind-breaker. Start at the Mount Fyffe car park, located 15km west of Kaikōura at the end of Postman's Road.
