THE NOR’WESTER CAFE

This quaint café is a quite possibly the most delicious pitstop along the Hurunui stretch of SH1. It's as cosy as the house exterior suggests, with the smell of Allpress coffee and freshly baked pastries luring motorists inside. Anyone crunched for time will find the cabinet food (including melt-in-themouth cheese scones) makes for tasty mid-morning snacking. A word of warning — it takes a will of iron not to sink into a chair to tackle a brekkie or pasta-of-theday. Indulge in eggs benedict stacked on a fat rosemary-flavoured rosti or the slowcooked barbecue pork burger. The café has been a popular choice for local motorists to refuel since 1997. In the warmer months, patrons flock to the outdoor terrace to enjoy breakfast or lunch beneath pretty, shade-providing vines.
