Tia Ranginui: Tua o Tāwauwau
28 May to 21 August, Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui Theatrical photographic works by Whanganui artist Tia Ranginui (Ngāti Hine Oneone) capture patupaiarehe, the supernatural beings in Māori mythology viewed as the first people of Aotearoa. With delicate features, red hair and fair complexions, patupaiarehe lived in the forests and mountains, building homes from the swirling mists. Ranginui’s images depict the mercurial fairy people out and about in the Whanganui suburbs of Gonville and Castlecliff. sarjeant.org.nz
