Te Whare toi o Heretaunga Hastings City Art Gallery

Hasting's largest art gallery provides local, national and international exhibitions free for the community. The new action plan, Ararau, aims to create a stronger partnership with mana whenua. Outside the gallery in Civic Square, 18 pou carved from tōtara installed in 2013 symbolize the strengthening of that relationship. Each pou represents a marae from the Heretaunga district and includes information on the whakapapa of that marae. In February 2017, a 19th pou, Te Pou o Takitumu ki Rarotonga, was gifted to Hastings by Pa Ariki, Queen of Rarotonga, representing the connection between Ngāti Kahungunu of the Tākitimu waka and the people of Rarotonga. 201 Eastbourne Street, Hastings.
